We always had lots of steamboat, but Shabu Shabu is definitely something new in town.

Accordingly to wikipedia, Shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ? , also spelled syabu-syabu) is a Japanese variant of hot pot. The dish is related to sukiyaki in style, where both use thinly sliced meat and vegetables, and usually served with dipping sauces. However, it is starkly different in taste; shabu-shabu is more savory and less sweet than sukiyaki. It is considered a winter dish but is eaten year-round.

The dish is prepared by submerging a very thin slice of meat or a piece of vegetable in a pot of boiling water or dashi (broth) made with kombu (kelp) and swishing it back and forth several times. (The familiar swishing sound is where the dish gets its name. Shabu-shabu roughly translates to “swish-swish”.) Cooked meat and vegetables are usually dipped in ponzu or “goma” (sesame seed) sauce before eating with a bowl of steamed white rice.

Once the meat and vegetables have been eaten, leftover water (now broth) from the pot is customarily combined with the remaining rice, and the resulting soup is usually eaten last.

Friends of mine came all the way from Klang to Puchong just to try this newly opened Shabu Shabu at Puchong. It has no funny names but they call this shop at Restaurant Shabu Shabu.

Each person has to pay RM26.50 for unlimited food at Shabu-Shabu. As you can see, the address and phone number is being shown on the payment receipt and please remember to make reservation before going or you will have a hard time waiting for seats.

The concept of this Shabu Shabu is to have 2 belts running at the same time, 1 forward and 1 backward, allowing the customers to pick their own ingredients and boil it in their own hotpot. It’s pretty much like the Japanese Sushi Shop’s concept.

So, these are my best friends in secondary years, all the way from Klang.

To eat Shabu Shabu, the ingredients are pretty much easy to be boiled/cooked.
