Looking back through the Olympic to where it all started, the Bird’s Nest stadium, I felt a sudden rush of glory. Being a Chinese, though I have no relationship with China, the sense of proudness towards my grass root country being able to stage one of the biggest event in the world, is, err, indescribable.
Same goes to the athletes who competed and still competing in Olympic, to win a gold and being an Olympic champion is no easy task. It takes determination, effort, sacrificial, and much much more to be able to stay on the podium and have the national anthem being played out. I tried to imagine, while I was standing on the podium, winning the badminton against Lin Dan, trying to portray myself as Chong Wei. I would not smile, but tears will flow down uncontrollably, as all these sheer determination had paid off. *Back to here now*
While I was watching the highlights of the games, the athletes were being presented their medals and flowers. not many smiled, instead they cried. As I said earlier, to be able to stand on the podium is no easy task. How many people who actually know what they did behind the scene? They trained 7 hours per day, scarifying the time with family just to brush up their skill, had to put aside their friends as to concentrate on the task, getting countless injury. How many people ever realise that?
We want to be Lin Dan, we want to be Usain Bolt, we want to be Messi, we want to be everyone! But then what differs us from them is their mentality. To be able to fall and stand tall after the fall. To not disappoint the nation by delivering the best. After so many years of hard work, they, able to stand tall glorifying among us. Able to boast about the glory of having the chance to compete in Olympic.
They cried when they win. They cried when they lose.
We can learn something from them. The self-confidence they have, the self-belief that they have nothing to lose. They did more than everyone will do. They sacrificed more than everyone will do. They believed themselves more than everyone will do and in the end, they prevails!
Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys and Girls. To win is one thing, to believe in yourself, is what matters most.
While most Malaysians mourned for the past 48 hours, I was beaming in delight, and still in a festive mood too! While doing some blog-hopping, I read a few blog posts that praised Chong Wei for what he did for Malaysia, but there are a few too lashed out disappointments towards Chong Wei approach to the game, which was his worst lost to Lin Dan in their many meetings.
Well, if you feel sad, down, disappointing, disjointed, and feel deserved more from the Malaysia No.1, please don’t do so. Remember how Chong Wei won against Sony? Against Lee Hyun Il? How he overcame the odds stacked against him? How he shoulder the hope of all Malaysians hoping him can bring glory to the country, the country that we beloved?
To compete in a major sports event like Olympic is a glory, something that our nation and its people should be proud of. We may not able to cause any other major upset, we might not able to overhaul China and USA in the medal tally *not even Thailand*, but I can still stand proud, stand tall, as Malaysia has a place in the medal table. Though it may be 20++, but this are the efforts the athletes poured in for so many years, dripped so many sweats, gained so much burden and pressure, and being a part of Beijing is an honour, not just the athletes, but to all Malaysians.
Getting into the final is even a achievement. I didn’t watch the match, but I know that my heart beats more than anyone else as the national anthem being sang out during the medal presentation ceremony. In 51 years, we have achieved quite a distance, and we have something to cheer on!
Malaysians, do not keep looking at the past, time moves forward, not backward. We have won a silver, and this achievement will go down in the history book as a motivation and inspiration to our youngsters so that they will aim to achieve more.
I am still beaming in delight, cause the country did a proud, to be able to stand tall among others, I smiled.
My eyes were glued to the TV in front of me. Trying to get a closer glimpse on what was going to happen next. It was merely 20 seconds, precisely 19.30 seconds before I had even realised that it all ended. It was like a lightning bolt, a gush of wind that soared past my eyes. Whew~~Before I got back to my feet, he was already cheering like a clown, holding his national flag and ran across the Bird’s Nest Stadium. Ladies & Gentlemen, welcome the Earh fastest man, Usian ‘Lighting’ Bolt!
True to his nickname, he’s practically a bolt, lightning bolt. Everything happened so fast, and the next thing I realised was that he won the men 200m final, and with ease. With the replay kept playing again and again, I analysed the whole track. No flaws, perfect start, perfect run, perfect finish. Not his typical style of showboating at the end of the run just like what he did during the men 100m final and humiliating Tyson Gay and his counterpart, Asafa Powell. The silver medal holder behind him was like almost close to 0.60 second! Damn, not even one can compete against him? In 4 days he has beaten and recreated 4 records. Two being world records and two being Olympic records. Forget about Micheal Phelps, this is the guy that we should truly saviour on.
He is just so damn fast! 100m for 9.69 seconds and 200m for 19.30. I remember that I used to run over 15 seconds for 100m. Too embarrass even to mention 200m.
Hey guys it’s me, K-Tuck again. My scout troop a.k.a. 73rd Petaling had a Scout Den Renovation & also a task to build a gadget during this holidays in conjunction of the Merdeka this year. I wont talk much and I’ll let the pictures do the talking. x)
A classroom used to store all the den equipment.
The empty den waiting for new paint job.
The longkang also got new paint job!
Everyone sweeping the dirt on the floor after painting the walls.
Scrubbing the paint off the floor. It was the most tiring job.
More scrubbing… You see that plastic broom there on the left being left unattended? That’s the broom I used and I slacked for abit to take a few pictures.
After cleaning the den. We moved on to build our Merdeka Gadget. That picture above is showing just a starting process, still got alot more to do.
A few scouts lashing 2 pieces of long bakau together to be used as a pole.
Somemore lashing. Both the bakau length can reach 2 stories. And I had to climb that height to lash somemore bakau to connect it together.
Slightly more progress.
Slacker. Like some ‘tao kay’ only.
The bakau’s criss-crossing. Taken from the bottom of the gadget.
The amount of Rafiah left unattended. Where’s the Rafiah Director?
I’m Zeus!
Lastly, I would like to apoligize for the lousy picture quality. Something went terribly wrong on my new Olympus FE-270.
This is my second entry as a guest blogger. I am not going to introduce Southampton again, instead, the Chinese food here. Since Beng Han blogs about food and restaurant so often maybe you can have a price comparison between these food. I am not sure if he has blog about Dim Sum before but it doesn’t matter, does it?
Restaurant: Dragon Palace | Cuisine: Chinese | Loaction: Southampton City Center
I would say this is the best Chinese restaurant in Southampton. It was opened 2 years ago and the restaurant used to have Malaysian chefs who can cook delicious Malaysian food. Unfortunately, the restaurant was taken over by a Hong Kong woman and the Malaysian chefs were no longer around. The food was not only gone less tasty but also expensive. My friends and I then decided to boycott this restaurant until one day (last year), when we were forced to have dim sum here because the other restaurant was fully booked, and then we realized that the food quality has improved radically. Since then, we always come here for Dim Sum.
Dragon Palace is newly furnished, tidy and spacious. Unlike the other restaurant, which I used to go before this place was opened, have very dim lightning, cram and very bad services! Anyway, I go to Dragon Palace for Dim Sum almost every Sunday morning. Well, not really morning, more like high-tea because they only open at 12 noon!
The bar at the restaurant. Some British drink beer/wine during their lunch. Please don’t ask me why.
OK. I didn’t manage to take many photos of the restaurant because there were many people and everyone on my table was looking at me <shy>. However, I got as many photos of the dishes as I possibly can. And take a look at the price…
Note: Exchange rate - GBP 1 is approximately RM 6.5
All the price below are in Pounds. my keyboard doesn’t have the Pound sign <sowee>
That’s all. Compare the price and you will know how to cherish the food in Malaysia. I wish I can go home this year and makan a lot! Just Dim Sum alone you can roughly judge the food prices here.
… and now, after looking at all my Dim Sum photos, I AM HUNGRWWEEE !!! <sob sob>
Bungy Jump is something that you will remember for the entire of your life after a daring jump from above the ground of about 50 meters height, if you can visualize the sound of falling down to the ground directly.
Just kidding.
It’s sooooooo thhheeeeeeeee hiiighhhhhhhhhh !!!!
Gary actually signed and challenged himself at this jump.
The moment you make your payment, they crew lift you up through a cargo crane lift, and you walk to the jumping gate and there you goooooooo - Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee all the way from 50 meters height to the earth.
Well, that’s Gary in the photo below. He did a jump without any 5 seconds thought and he did the jump without any hesitation.
And the crew will pick you from the middle of the sky, and untie you from the Bungy Rope.
You will then get a certificate for something to brag off.
