Wished the show could have been held for 14 days
rather than 4 actually. (I take four days off from work
just for this event everytime.)
Then I would have had time to go through all the
exhibits and talk to their owners slowly !
I couldn’t manage to visit the Korean, Raytheon, Romanian
and Serbian stands - only noticed them at the Mezzanine floor
of Hall one at closing time on the last day. Quickly ran up, where
I managed to talk to the Serbian executive, who said they were
in the business of extending the shelf life of the Russian R-60
(Nato AA-8 Aphid) AAMs by 3 more years (normal 5 years). Helped
him to carry his missile mockup into his crate. He gave me some
CDs of his company’s business, and told me to email him when
he goes back to “exchange views” (must have thought I was in
the defense business).
He confirmed that two F117 Nighthawk stealth fighters (light
strike bombers actually) had been shot down by Serbian SAMs
during the Kosovo war. Forgot to ask him which missiles they were,
but a quick check on the net say they were Neva-M, improved
versions of the antique Russian SA-3 Goa.
